Maximum Power Density for Different Cooling Strategies


STS stands for the development and production of customerspecific
power chokes.

STS was manufacturing windings for switch mode power supplies as early as in the 70s and was already far ahead of the state of the art at that time. STS is now presenting InDUR – a new generation of power chokes.

InDUR is an innovative concept for the realisation of power chokes. Its noteworthy features are its power density, power efficiency and scalability.

InDUR is based on a modular core design with single-layer winding. Its compact size results from high current density combined with good cooling capability.

INDUR IS SUITABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING CHOKE TYPES

  • AC filter chokes
  • PFC chokes
  • DC chokes

STS InDUR chokes possess much lower internal thermal resistance values (internal Rth) compared to conventional solutions, resulting in better cooling of the chokes
and permitting higher current densities at the same hot-spot temperature. For all types of cooling examined, this significantly increases the energy density and therefore leads to more
compact components. In practical use, InDUR chokes permit current densities in excess of 10 A/mm² − values that were previously achieved only with direct water cooling.
