Among the wide range of applications in industrial technology, various ones have emerged over the past few years in which STS has developed a marked competence. Specifically these are laser, ultrasonics, welding, induction heating, contactless energy transmission and the explosion protection domain.

Laser


Development and production of inductive components as:

Ultrasonics


Development and production of inductive components for use in ultrasonic cleaning and welding devices:

  • transformers and chokes for high operating voltages (e.g. 2 kV) as well
  • precision current converters for the exact determination of the zero crossing and to measure the power
  • resonance chokes

Welding


Development and production of inductive components for electric arc welding devices (inverters), plastic welding devices and stud welding devices:

Induction heating


  • induction heating for small specimens (laboratory suppliers, goldsmiths) (10 kVA to 50 kVA)
  • large-scale installations such as induction heating systems (run-through installations) or installations for induction hardening (100 kVA to 1 MVA)

Development and production of inductive components as:

Contactless energy transmission


The main applications are carried out in the logistics (e.g. automatic guided vehicles (AGV) or high shelf stores) or modern solutions of passenger transport (e.g. Transrapid).

For these applications STS develops and produces the following inductive components:

  • power transformers and chokes to feed the inductive power transfer rail (10 kVA to 100 kVA)
  • inductive energy pick-up systems for the above inductive power transfer rail
  • adjustable chokes in order to adjust the inductive power transfer rail (the inductance can be varied by a factor of up to 10)
  • rotation transformers for non-contact energy transmission

Explosion-protection areas


Special safety requirements apply for explosion protection. Inductive components are used, for example, in power supply systems for filling level indicators or in plant controls in a hazardous environment. The essential insulation requirements are satisfied as follows:

  • nested coil formers on EF designs
  • cover systems for toroidal cores
  • wires or flexible leads with adequate insulation strength
