Over the past decades STS has developed extensive expertise in the field of insulation systems, expertise which is used in high-voltage transformers (1 kV - 60 kV). For example, STS is capable of designing partial-discharge-stable isolation systems of up to 10 kV with solid insulation and to manufacture them in series.

In general, the following types of insulation are used successfully:

  • solid insulation
  • air insulation
  • oil insulation

In the design of a transformer it is highly important firstly to keep the secondary-side winding capacity low and, secondly, to dissipate the total power loss arising.

High-voltage transformers up to a touch voltage of 10 kV can be designed both with air insulation and with solid insulation. At higher voltages oil insulation is normally used.

To achieve partial-discharge-stable isolation systems up to 10 kV, STS applies special impregnation processes, including the
vacuum-pressure-impregnation-geling-process.
In addition, vacuum potting methods are used with silicons, epoxides and polyurethanes.

STS guarantees demonstrably production quality in the field of corona abatement. There is a state-of-the-art measuring bay specifically for this purpose where partial discharges of a resolution up to 0.1 pC (up to 20 kV) can be measured.
