Alongside the focal areas of medical technology, aerospace and industrial applications, the market segment of railway technology is of strategic significance for STS. Over the past 10 years STS has consistently built up its core competence in this business unit.

Inductive components are developed and produced for rolling stock applications, as well as for underground rail systems, trams and trolley buses in the following fields:

  • auxiliary power supplies
  • traction
  • air-conditioning systems
  • battery chargers
  • lighting systems

On the 800 V level STS has operated successfully for more than 20 years.
On the 2 to 4 kV levels STS products have reached series maturity over the past few years and are already in production.

On the 15 kV level preliminary tests have already been conducted with promising results, and these will lead in a few years to new products.

In past years STS has introduced partial-discharge-stable insulation systems in the transformers and chokes to meet the requirements of the market.

At STS all products are developed and manufactured in accordance with the relevant standards (VDE 0115), in particular attention accordingly is paid to the areas of vibration resistance, tropic-proofing and long service life.

STS develops and produces the following inductive components:

  • power transformers for frequencies from 1 kHz to 100 kHz in the power range from 10 kVA to 1 MVA including partial-discharge-stable insulation systems up to 6 kV / <10 pC
  • drive transformers up to 6 kV (partial-discharge-stable < 5 pC)
  • low-capacity PFC chokes chokes in the power range from 10 kVA to 100 kVA
  • storage chokes
