Alongside the focal areas of railway technology, aerospace and industrial applications, the market segment of medical technology is of strategic significance for STS. Over the past 10 years STS has consistently built up its core competence in this business unit.

STS develops and produces inductive components for, among other things, high-frequency surgical instruments, resuscitation units, devices for stimulation current therapy, kidney-stone crushers (lithotripter) and X-ray units:

• pulse transformers for frequencies up to 500 kHz and voltage ratings up to 8 kV
• current and voltage sensors to monitor power
• transformers and inductors for medical power supply systems (switched-mode power supply)
• high-voltage transformers on flyback topology basis
• oil-insulated high-voltage transformers up to 60 kV
• special pulse inductors (high-voltages and high-current application) for dielectric excitation (ultrasonic shockwave to shatter kidney-stones)

All devices are manufactured in accordance with the relevant standards (VDE 0750) and many years of experience have been accumulated in this field.
