STS develops and produces customised ignition transformers with special requirements regarding technology, quality and product service life.

In contrast to a high-voltage transformer with permanent output voltage, with an ignition transformer (1 kV to 30 kV) only short ignition impulses are generated. The design of the insulation system will therefore be such that the service life of the transformer (MTBF) reliably withstands a maximum number of ignition impulses to be defined.

Often a high current flows after the ignition and so many ignition transformers also have to be designed for a high direct current load.

Due to resonant peak in general or with the flyback converter topology, high output voltages can be generated despite moderate transformation ratios.
